Maria Clara Sanchez

Maria Clara Sanchez is the founder and principal of MAS Architecture Studio, an architectural practice based in San Francisco, established in 2019. MAS is grounded in the belief that thoughtful design has the power to elevate our spirit and our daily lives.

Maria Clara brings a design sensibility shaped by the modernist tradition, with a particular focus on integration to the site, spatial clarity, natural light, and honest materials. She values diversity in her work and has led projects ranging from the remodeling of historic homes to the design of large estates deeply connected to the landscape. Her approach balances practical needs with a sense of joy, drawing from her love of art and commitment to creating spaces that feel both grounded and expansive. At MAS, she oversees all phases of design and leads close collaborations with clients and consultants alike.

Before founding MAS Architecture Studio, Maria Clara worked on a wide range of project types and scales—from urban design initiatives at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP in New York City to civic architecture such as the Bayview Branch Library in San Francisco. Her professional experience also includes commercial work, including the adaptive reuse of a warehouse into headquarters for a technology firm.

Maria Clara holds degrees from Columbia University and Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá) and is a licensed architect in California.
